How a check works

You give us a product and some context about you. We return one answer and show how we got to it. Here is what happens at each step.

1

Paste a link or a name

Use a link from the store you plan to buy from and we read the product page for the name, the price and the photo. If a store blocks us, type the product name and model instead.

2

Confirm it's the right product

We show what we found so you can catch a wrong colour, size or model before anything is checked. Pick the country you're buying in, because prices and stores differ.

3

Answer a few questions about you

Why you're buying, what you need it for, what matters most, anything that would be a deal breaker, how the price feels and when you need it. The options change with the product, and we skip any question your earlier answers already settle.

4

Create an account and pick a plan

Your answers are saved while you sign up. Plans start at $0.99. Nothing is used until you ask for the report, and a check we cannot complete uses no credit.

5

We do the research

We match the exact model, check specifications and the current price, look for problems owners report again and again, and find alternatives worth comparing. This usually takes under a minute.

6

Read your verdict

You get GO, WAIT or SKIP, a score, the main reason and how your answers shaped it. Then the price we'd call a good buy, the single biggest drawback, alternatives, and where to buy in your country. Everything is saved in your dashboard.

What each question changes

We only ask something if the answer can change the verdict, the score or the alternatives.

QuestionWhat it changes
Why are you considering it?A replacement or an upgrade is compared with what you own now. A small step up can turn a good product into a SKIP.
What do you need it for?Your uses add weight to the traits that matter for them, such as battery life for travel.
What matters most?Up to three priorities carry the most weight in your fit score.
Any deal breakers? If the product is weak on one, the verdict becomes SKIP, even when the overall score is high.
How does the price feel?Sets the budget we score against, so a price you're comfortable with is not penalised.
When do you need it?Decides whether a better price or a newer model is worth waiting for.
One follow-upOnly asked when your earlier answers leave a gap that would change the result, such as which phone you use.

What we won't do

We don't make up a price history or a release date. When we can't find one, the report says so. We don't give a GO or SKIP when the evidence is thin, and in that case no credit is used. Commission from a store link never changes a verdict. The scoring rules are on the methodology page.
