What to spend on strollers in Saudi Arabia
Entry level: under SAR 370
Stay with simple models from established makers. At this level the best value is a lightweight or basic full-size stroller. Skip extras and look at the basics: a solid harness, working brakes and a safety mark.
Mid range: SAR 370 to SAR 950
This is the sweet spot for most families. You can get good suspension, a larger basket, a smooth fold and a stroller that lasts through a second child. Spend on the frame, the wheels and the fold, not on accessories.
Upper range: SAR 950 to SAR 1,850
You are paying for lighter frames, better wheels and suspension, a smoother fold and longer-lasting parts. Worth it if you use it daily, walk a lot or want a stroller you can resell.
Premium: SAR 1,850 and more
Premium models add design, materials, resale value and a wide range of accessories. They are not always better for your needs, so only go here if you want those extras.
The types of stroller, explained
Lightweight stroller
A light, narrow stroller that folds small, usually 5 to 8 kg. Made for toddlers and quick trips.
Good: Easy to carry up stairs and into a car boot; Folds small, often with one hand; Usually the cheapest type. Watch for: Often not suitable for a newborn unless it reclines almost flat; Smaller basket and simpler suspension; Can feel flimsy on rough ground.
Full-size stroller
A sturdier everyday stroller with bigger wheels, better suspension, a large basket and a deep recline, often with a carrycot option.
Good: Comfortable for long walks and daily use; Big basket and good suspension; Many reach from newborn to toddler and last for years. Watch for: Heavier (often 9 to 13 kg) and bulkier when folded; Needs a roomy boot and some storage space.
Travel system (stroller plus infant car seat)
A stroller sold with, or built to take, an infant car seat that clicks on. You move a sleeping baby from the car to the stroller without waking them.
Good: Very convenient for a newborn and frequent car trips; Car seat and stroller are designed to fit together. Watch for: The infant seat is outgrown at about 12 to 15 months; Check that the seat and stroller are compatible and that you can fit them in your car.
Jogging or all-terrain stroller
A three-wheel stroller with large air tyres and strong suspension, built for running, parks, trails and rough ground.
Good: Smooth on rough ground and long walks; Stable and good for running. Watch for: Heavy and long when folded; Makers usually say not to run with a baby under about 6 to 8 months, so check the manual; Overkill for city errands.
Compact travel stroller
A very small, light stroller that folds to about the size of a cabin bag. Made for flying and tight spaces.
Good: Fits in an overhead locker or a small boot; Very light, easy to carry. Watch for: Small wheels and a small basket; Less comfortable for long daily use.
Double stroller
A stroller for two children, side by side or one behind the other (tandem), for twins or close ages.
Good: One stroller for both children; Many convert to a single stroller later. Watch for: Side by side models can be too wide for doors and shops; Heavier and more expensive; measure doors and boot first.

Mistakes to avoid
- Buying before measuring the car boot and the doors it must pass through.
- Choosing a jogging stroller for city errands. It is heavy and long.
- Choosing a stroller without a safety mark, or a no-name unit with weak brakes and a loose harness.
- Buying second hand without checking for recalls and the age of the plastic and fabric.
- Paying for accessories you will not use. Spend on the frame, wheels and fold.
Check before you pay
- A safety mark or standard required in your country (for example INMETRO in Brazil, EN 1888 in Europe, ASTM in the US)
- The age and weight range, and the recline angle for a young baby
- Fold size and weight against your car boot and stairs. Measure them.
- A 5-point harness and brakes that work with one foot
- Handle height that suits the tallest person who pushes it
- The return policy, the warranty and whether spare parts are sold in your country
