Entry level: under AED 1,300

At this level, a basic front-loader or compact washer does the job. Check the drum size and the spin speed.

Mid range: AED 1,300 to AED 2,600

The sweet spot: a good front-loader with an efficient inverter motor and a reliable brand.

Upper range: AED 2,600 to AED 4,800

You get a large drum, steam, smart control and better efficiency. Worth it for a busy household.

Premium: AED 4,800 and more

Premium machines add AI dosing and the best build. Only go here if you want the quietest, most efficient machine.

The types of washing machine, explained

Front-loading washer

The most common type, gentle on clothes and efficient with water, with space on top to use or stack.

Good: Gentle on clothes; Efficient with water and power; Can be stacked or built under. Watch for: You bend to load; Door seal needs wiping; Longer cycles.

Top-loading washer

A washer you load from the top, quick and easy on the back, popular in some countries.

Good: Easy loading and unloading; Faster cycles; No door seal mould issues. Watch for: Harder on clothes; Uses more water; Cannot be stacked.

Washer-dryer combo

One machine that washes and dries, saving space when you cannot fit two.

Good: One machine for small homes; No moving wet clothes; Saves space. Watch for: Dries slowly and in small loads; Costs more; Uses more water to dry.

Compact or slim washer

A narrow washer for tight spaces, with a smaller drum for one or two people.

Good: Fits in small spaces; Cheaper; Quick cycles. Watch for: Small drum; Not for bulky items; Fewer features.
